When the Street Becomes Home in Spain
Most of us in Spain have never imagined what it would be like to lose our home — to have no key to turn in a door, no bed to rest in, no place to feel safe. Yet for thousands of people across our towns and cities, this is their daily reality.
In recent years, homelessness in Spain has continued to rise. The pandemic, rising rents, unstable work, and the cost of living crisis have pushed more people to the edge. In cities and coastal towns alike, shelters are often full. This leaves many with no choice but to sleep on benches, in doorways, on beaches, or on cold pavements.
Life on the streets is not just about being cold or hungry. It is about fear, exhaustion, and invisibility. Every day becomes a battle — to find food, to stay warm, to protect yourself, and to hold onto your dignity. A home is more than a roof. It is where you feel human. It is where you can rest, feel secure, and believe that your life can still move forward.
For someone who doesn’t know where their next meal will come from, thinking about tomorrow can feel impossible. Hope becomes fragile. Survival comes first.
At Project 4All, we see the human side of homelessness. The people we support are not statistics. They are workers who lost jobs, families affected by rising rents, people who faced illness, relationship breakdowns, or sudden crises. Most never imagined they would be here. They did not choose this life — they were pushed into it.
Behind every person sleeping rough is a story, a past, and a future that still matters. At Project 4All, we believe that everyone deserves compassion, respect, and a real chance to rebuild. With understanding, practical support, and community, lives can change.
Together, we can help turn survival into stability — and give people back what homelessness takes away: safety, dignity, and hope.
